A. Sign Up Process

A.0 : Can you explain the sign up process?

Go to the sign up page , and read the appointment rules carefully. Fill out the form. Fields marked with an asterisk (*) are mandatory. Click "Sign Up" button to submit the form. Your login name and password will be e-mailed to your csu.fullerton.edu e-mail address. Once you receive our e-mail, go to the log in page , use the login name and password we sent you to log in.

A.1 : What is the Campus-Wide-ID (CWID)? How do I find out my CWID?

The Campus Wide ID is an identifying number CSUF assigns to every student. CWID has 9 digits and always starts with an "8". See this FAQ page for more information.

You can find out your CWID by going to this web site.

A.2 : What is my University e-mail address and why do I need to provide it when I sign up?

Every student enrolling at CSUF will automatically receive an e-mail account. You can find your e-mail address at the Titan Access web site . They will display your e-mail address after you enter your Student ID and PIN.

It is important that you use the correct University e-mail address when you sign up at the CBE tutoring center. We e-mail your login name and password to this e-mail address to ensure every person signing up is a CSUF student, provides us the correct e-mail, and signs up only once.

Find out more about University e-mail in FAQ A.4

A.3 : Why do I need to provide my phone number and e-mail address when I sign up?

The College Tutoring Center may need to contact you if we have to cancel or re-schedule your appointment. We do not use your e-mail address or phone number for other purposes.

A.4 : I have never used the University e-mail before. How do I check my e-mail at the University e-mail account?

You can check your e-mail through the web. The link is http://email.fullerton.edu . You will be prompted to enter your e-mail user name and password. Your e-mail user name is your e-mail address without the @csu.fullerton.edu part, your password should be your student PIN. See the IT FAQ for details.

You may also use Outlook Express, Netscape Communicator or Eudora to check your e-mails via POP/IMAP/SMTP protocols. See here for configuration details.

A.5 : I do not use my University assigned e-mail. Can I use my other e-mail account?

Your login name and password are only sent to your University e-mail. Therefore you must use your e-mail when you sign up, or when you retrieve your lost password.

You may however, provide an alternate e-mail address to us on the sign up form. If we need to contact you, we will try both addresses.

A.6 : After I submit the sign up form, how long will it take my password e-mail to arrive?

Our e-mail usually arrives at the school server in less than five minutes. However there could be delays if there is a computer worm outbreak or e-mail virus storm on the campus network.

A.7 : I have signed up before the Spring 04 semester. Should I sign up again and why?

If you signed up before Spring 04, please sign up again. We upgraded our system before the start of Spring 04. In the process we removed all previous records which may contain student personal information that we are no longer allowed to keep under new regulations.

A.8 : I have forgotten my login name and/or password. Can I sign up again to get a new one?

You can not sign up twice using the same University e-mail address / CWID. Use the password retrieval function to retrieve your password instead. See FAQ B2.

B. Logging in

B.0 : I just want to walk-in. Can I find out the tutors' schedule without logging in?

You can search the tutors schedule without logging in. Note that appointments always have priority over walk-ins. To guarantee a timeslot, make an appointment.

B.1 : I forgot my login name.

Your login name is usually your CWID (If you provided it during sign up), or your school e-mail address (without the @csu.fullerton.edu part).

If you signed up before Spring 04 and picked your own login name, please sign up again to receive a new login name. See FAQ A7.

B.2 : I forgot my password.

Go to password retrieval , enter your CWID or University email address. We will e-mail your password to your University e-mail address.

B.3 : Can I change my password?

Yes. After log in, go to My Profile to change your password. Your new password can contain up to 8 characters, including alphabets and/or numerals. You should select a password that is difficult for others to guess. Do not use your ATM password, your TITAN PIN, or anything that will give access to your other personal accounts.

B.4 : After I log in, the system says I am "temporarily suspended" and I cannot proceed to make appointments.

You have missed your appointment three times. You may still walk-in for tutoring. Contact cbetutor@fullerton.edu if you have any questions.

C. Making Appointments

C.0 : How far in advance can I make appointments?

Usually you can make appointments ten days in advance.

C.1 : I cannot find an available timeslot.

If "Available Timeslot" is empty after you pressed the "Search" Button, your search is too restrictive. Try relax the search criteria. Select "All Tutors" or "Any Time" and search again.

If "Available Timeslot" shows some schedule timeslots but they are all marked "No availability", the tutors are fully booked at the time you requested.

C.2 : How long are the tutoring sessions?

Most of the tutoring sessions are thirty minutes long. Some tutoring sessions are fifteen minutes long for scheduling reasons. You will receive a warning when you make a reservation for these short sessions.

With the exception of business writing subjects, you can make two consecutive appointments with the same tutor to create a one-hour session. Business writing tutoring cannot be longer than thirty minutes.

C.3 : How many appointments can I make?

You may make up to two appointments for one single working day, and up to six appointments for one single Monday-to-Friday week.

C.4 : I missed my appointment because: I am sick/My car broke down/My cat is missing/Something happened

You should notify us if you cannot come to your appointment. To cancel an appointment on-line, select "My Appointment" after log in, then click "Cancel" next to the appointment you will miss. If you are in a hurry or have no web access, call us at: (714) 278-2704 to cancel an appointment.

If you miss your appointment three times, you will not be able to make further appointments and have to walk-in for tutoring. For any question on appointments that are recorded as "NO-SHOW" in our system, contact cbetutor@fullerton.edu or the tutor with whom you have an appointment.

Remember, it is unfair to your fellow students who have to be turned away because of your no-show appointment.

C.5 : I cannot see my cancelled/previous appointments.

"My Appointments" page will only show your future appointments, and appointments that should have just started. Cancelled appointments will not be shown in the "My Appointments" page.

D. At the tutoring center

D.0 : My homework is due next hour/now. Why can't the tutors just give me the answers?

That is what we try to avoid, and what you should avoid. First, you should allocate enough time for your homework. Second, your homework is your responsibility. Our tutors can help you understand the question, they can explain the related materials, or assist you if you're on the wrong track. But we cannot, and we will not do your homework for you. Remember, we are like coaches: we can't run in the race.
