BETA ALPHA PSI was founded in 1919 as a national honors accounting organization. By 1997 there were over 200 chapters on college and university campuses with over 200,000 members initiated ever since. Delta Beta Chapter of Beta Alpha Psi, the 19th chapter installed nationally, was installed on May 20, 1972.
The primary objective of the organization was to encourage and give recognition to scholastic and professional excellence in the field of accounting. This included promoting the study and practice of accounting; providing opportunities for self-development and association among members and practicing accountants; and encouraging a sense of ethical, social, and public responsibility.
Since Fall 1999, to align the organization with emerging trends in business education and corporate hiring strategies, chapters are authorized to initiate students concentrating in finance and information systems as well. Beta Alpha Psi has now become the premier professional accounting and business information organization.
